[on the music of 'Ghostlight'] The Act I closer, "The Shepherd," is very much a musical nervous breakdown, which - let's face it - is just a lot of fun to write. We encompassed many melodies that the audience has already heard throughout the first act. Our lead character, Olive, is dealing with an affair, an unfulfilled marriage and a downward spiral into drugs and alcohol. She is confused and we believe the music really reflects that.
