A very minor addition to an ugly horror subgenre.

Not an effective scare zone, best enjoyed as a chance to watch a few actors hustle to showcase their stuff, handed ample screen time to work through a range of bizarre encounters.

Armed with a bargain basement budget and access to an actress with a following, co-directors Brian M. Conley and Nathan Ives deliver contained, gruesome horror that is hampered by a largely inert script.

[For] low-budget horror, The Basement certainly isn't the worst, but it's far from the best. It's a good time-killer with great gore and decent performances, a nice background while you play that game on your phone. Don't expect anything more.

No scary, just excruciating. Shades of "Saw." Every "Saw" movie. Ever.
