Daughter to Tully Dickey Helfer and Carolyn Ione Van Patten. Youngest child. Sister to William Van Patten Helfer. Second marriage for mother. Three half siblings from mother's first marriage: Kathryne Shannon, Henry Shannon, and Betty Shannon. Born in Burbank, California and grew up in "The Valley." Original Valley Girl. Brother Henry known for training animals in "Beverly Hillbillies", "Petticoat Junction", "Green Acres", and numerous other TV shows and movies. Dian grew up training dogs, cats, pigeons, rabbits, and chickens. Dian lives in a rural suburb with her husband Jai Singh and their five goats, guinea pigs, cat, and dogs. Dian has two daughters: Tamara Love Haser (married to Todd Haser) and Samantha Love Street-Margiotta (married to Michael Margiotta), (from two previous marriages to R. Christy and Chris Street). She also has four grandchildren: Kayla Haser, Logan Haser, Krystin Haser, and River Rain Diann Margiotta.
